Claire Shakespeare’s practice captures the everyday experience through an investigation of improvisation and chance within painting. Using playful, rudimental forms and expressive mark making we see works that blend materiality and the inner self to represent personal yet ambiguous engagements with her subject matter including trees, flowers and suggestive bodily features. Altogether Shakespeare’s scenes explore agency, free association, and consciousness with the limitations of a two-dimensional surface.
