She came, she saw, she conquered

Tuesday 18th– Sunday 23rd October

Private view Thursday 20th October 6-9pm

Amy Wiggin and Rebecca Hardaker

Motivated by intuitive and instinctual mark-making and a sense of freedom of expression, both Rebecca Hardaker and Amy Wiggin’s practice evolves from a curious exploration of Self.

The title of this show refers to Julius Caesar’s Proclamation – subverting the statement instead in reclamation of a feminist reading. She Came she saw she conquered is a visual exploration by two female artists seeking to re-imagine new frontiers of femininity and identity.

Amy Wiggin, an artist living and working In London, primarily uses the medium of printmaking to explore definitions and boundaries of Femininity and Masculinity as well as intimate and sexual relationships: Using raw printmaking techniques of monotype and lithography she Illustrates both female and male figures to redraw and redefine these definitions, saying ‘In creating these pieces I aim to create new ways for us to imagine both the masculine and the feminine and create space for collaborative communication and dialogue around our sexuality and identities.’

Rebecca Hardaker, an artist originally from Shropshire, now living and working in London, makes large scale paintings using mixed media, her practice allows her to inhabit her studio space as a way to access her most authentic self- unencumbered by projections from others this space allows her to express herself instinctively, saying: ‘There are perceived cues that people react to; How one’s exterior can lead to assumptions which are projected on to you without your consent, and how it can be instead be simpler in life to play into stereotypes. The work in this show, is a rebuttal. We are here and we exist in many forms and have the right to contradict ourselves in life and in art.’
