Jingdezhen (Jiangxi, China) ceramic artist Cheng Linyao reinterprets the centuries-old qinghua (blue-and-white) tradition through sculptural forms, botanical rhythms, and contemporary cobalt tones. Born into a porcelain-making family, Linyao combines the ink-wash “fen shui” technique with hand-built vessels, drawing inspiration from heartbeats, vines, and the silent growth we observe in nature. Brighter than White, Darker than Blue: Cobalt Cosmology offers a quiet meditation on material memory, feminine presence, and the ever so subtle yet potential forces of clay. From botanical rhythms to symbolic figuration, Cheng’s work becomes a dialogue between heritage and regeneration.
