Artist in Residence – Work in Progress

3rd – 12th  January, Tuesday – Saturday 12 – 6pm Sunday 12 – 4pm

Finissage 12th January 6 – 9pm

Liz Elton will be artist in residence at Fitzrovia Gallery from 3-12 January.  We are also delighted to welcome Sarah Kent and Claire Loussouarn who will perform at a finissage 6:30-8:30pm 12 January. Liz will transfer her studio practice into the space, showing recent work and continuing to make while she is with us. Her practice begins in painting, moving into the expanded field to explore the potential of waste and the recycling of matter.  Much of her work is made with the intention of not lasting, using compostable cornstarch as a ground, dyed with waste and embedded with seeds. During lockdown Liz made editioned prints of images of her kitchen waste on its way to compost,

tracking food and flowers passing through the home and referencing historical still-life painting.

Liz is based in London.  She has a BA in painting and an MA in fine art from the University of the Arts London (Wimbledon and Chelsea colleges).  A Mark Rothko Memorial Trust Artist in Residence at the Mark Rothko Art Centre, Daugavpils, Latvia in 2022, she has been shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize three times, was awarded special commendation in Dentons Art Prize 2018 and Second Prize in the Sustainability Art Prize 2020.
