Paintings that evoke vast neutral spaces in which a hut, a mountain, some steps, fragile shoots provide focus or tension or challenge. The emotive power of space is the anchor of the paintings, and the elements within often suggest ambiguity and uncertainty in relation to that space and to nature. The space can be liberating or dystopian.
